Bringing an educational app to life for over 30 million children with autism

Rockmelon engaged Airteam to translate their clinical vision into a market-ready digital product. We delivered a validated Proof of Concept (PoC) specifically engineered to secure investor confidence. Our collaboration resulted in a tangible product that empowers parents to help their children succeed in their education. Rockmelon then used this proof of concept to secure additional funding to launch their product worldwide.
Rockmelon is reimagining education in the autism community
Rockmelon is a start-up with a mission to transform the lives of the over 30 million children with autism around the world. They aim to ensure that all children can reach their full potential. They are doing this by building a global community of parents, therapists, carers, and teachers who are reimagining the way early intervention products and services are delivered to children with autism.
It was our shared mission to change the lives of millions of children
Rockmelon approached us to bring their vision for an educational app to life. They wanted to reimagine how children with autism learn using clinically designed technology. Their goal was to provide a digital learning tool that could empower parents, therapists, and teachers to help children with autism reach their full potential.

Working on the autism world’s most advanced learning and development tool
We partnered with Rockmelon to define, design, and build an app that could fit their requirements and timeline. We utilised a human-centred design approach to validate the product roadmap. By focusing on critical user journeys, such as goal-setting for everyday social interactions, we moved rapidly from conceptual design to a functional prototype.
Working collaboratively with Rockmelon, we designed and developed a proof of concept that helped them secure additional funding to take their product into the world.
What we did:
- Used human-centred design principles to develop a user focused product
- Conducted user research and developed user journeys
- Produced conceptual designs and a prototype as proof of concept
- Undertook development of the application
The end result was a tangible product and over three million dollars in funding
Our partnership resulted in a tangible product that empowers parents, therapists, and teachers to help children with autism achieve success in their education. The app provided a concrete set of assets and validations for Rockmelon's vision. We created a simple user interface that allowed users to run through learning modules that allowed them to prepare and set goals for everyday experiences, such as visiting the supermarket for the first time, or introducing children to everyday items such that they were prepared for experiences and interactions.
Taking their idea from vision to reality was made possible through our methods of HCD, user research, and development.
