Name: James Wyse
Position: Lead Developer
Years with Airteam: 5+ (Actually one of Airteams original crew)
1, Please tell me a bit about your role at Airteam?
I believe the new job description we came up with sums this up well:*
“As our Lead Developer you define and evolve our
development principles as a foundation to our growing
development practice. You bring a holistic view to projects,
keeping the technical objectives and principles in mind. You
are a strong communicator and can clearly articulate
technical nuances to non-technical stakeholders and
decision makers. You pave the way for constructive and
innovative conversations within our development team,
providing mentorship and direction to keep the team
pushing in the same direction, together.”
2, Originally from Edinburgh, what brought you to Australia?
I started as a backpacker exploring and working my way around New
Zealand for a year. Once my visa ended, I decided to extend my trip to
Australia and I loved the lifestyle so much here I made it my home!
3, Who is your role model in the world of tech?
I’m not sure I have any specific role models; I like to follow people who
promote inclusivity in the tech community, or people with big ideas about
where the world is going and how we can use technology to improve
4, If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day who would it be?
Any astronaut working on the International Space Station, I’d love to
spend a day there.
5, What music do you listen to when at your desk?
Usually minimal electronic, synthwave or any soft lo-fi beats - anything
too heavy / lyrical can be a bit distracting!
6, If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Time, it’s the most precious commodity there is and with unlimited time
we can achieve anything!
7, If you could give your past self advice, what would it be?
Believe in yourself. (and buy more cryptocurrency!)
8, If not a Developer what would you be?
I’d love to work with animals in any capacity that is beneficial, maybe as a
veterinarian or in conservation.
9, What do you love the most about working remotely?
It’s mostly about work-life balance. There’s no commute so that is a huge
time saver and being able to take short breaks from my desk to put some
laundry on, or run errands helps break up my day and keeps me
10, And finally what does this promotion mean for you?
It means a lot to know I’ve had a positive impact at Airteam and I’m
excited to help shape our development practice as we grow our team.
